Our time capsules are a wonderful opportunity for friends of the History Center to preserve their own piece of history within the walls of "The Smithsonian's in Pittsburgh ."

Contents of each time capsule are as individual as the owners.  Ideas include childhood report cards, family photos, war medals, diplomas - any special memento you want to save for future generations. Filling a time capsule is a wonderful way to celebrate milestones, such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, or family reunions.

Each time capsule is sealed inside a specially-designed wall located in the foyer of the McGuinn Gallery on the first floor of  the History Center's Smithsonian wing. A stainless steel, brass, or aluminum plaque serves as a nameplate to identify the location of your time capsule.

Time capsule owners receive archival-quality preservation materials and special assistance from History Center staff in order to prepare their items for storage within their time capsule.

Time Capsules are available for contributions of $2,500, $5,000, and $10,000.
